This documentary film focuses on the development and preservation of Jaipong, a traditional dance with significant cultural and historical value for Indonesian society. The aim of the film is to raise awareness about Jaipong and highlight how this dance serves as an essential part of Indonesia’s cultural identity.

The documentary follows the life journey of a talented and dedicated Jaipong dancer. Through in-depth interviews and behind-the-scenes footage, viewers will gain an intimate perspective on how Jaipong has shaped and influenced the dancer’s life. From rigorous training sessions to performances at various events, the film will capture the beauty, challenges, and dedication inherent in the world of Jaipong dance.

Jaipong originated from the creative work of traditional dance artist Gugum Gumbira from Bandung in the 1970s, as described in Keanekaragaman Seni Tari Nusantara by Resi Septiana Dewi. Gugum’s inspiration came from traveling across West Java to explore traditional art forms, during which he discovered Pencak Silat, Tayuban, and Ketuk Tilu dances.

Jaipong integrates elements of traditional dance, music, and storytelling, serving as an artistic expression of the daily lives, beliefs, and values of the Sundanese people. Over the years, it has evolved as a cultural symbol of West Java.

In an era of increasing global connectivity, preserving traditional art forms like Jaipong is crucial for safeguarding Sudanese cultural heritage. Passing on the knowledge and skills required to perform Jaipong ensures that future generations can continue to appreciate and honor this legacy.

Through this documentary, we aim to inspire younger generations to preserve Jaipong and uphold the traditional values passed down by their ancestors. Regional culture is an integral part of national culture, and it is the responsibility of the youth to ensure its survival.
